It was such an exciting day, heading to Melbourne with Vicki Jeffrey and Angie Smales for the announcement of the six towns, including Birregurra, who were lucky enough to receive $350k for a transformative arts project. All towns selected are as tiny as Birre, some more so, with all the town representatives having to explain where their town was.
The Small Town Transformations journey actually started last November 2015 with the announcement calling for Expressions of Interest for the grant.
A small group in Birregurra leapt immediately into action, calling out to the community for their best ideas and working most Wednesday nights collate them and formulate a concept that would capture the attention of the assessment panel.
Ideas were rich and plentiful, even seeing 75 Birregurra Primary School students submitting illustrated postcards of their wish list.
The project officially commences in August 2016. Over the next few months, we'll reflect on the journey we've taken to get to this point and look forward to where the project will take us. It really is an exciting time.
